The Phantom III was produced for three years starting in 1936, with 727 chassis built. This example is finished in two-tone gray and black and features chrome bumpers, a central Lucas driving lamp, a badge bar, a polished grille, a Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament, a top-hinged windshield, black-painted fenders with running boards, and a bustle-back trunk. The right quarter panel was repaired under the seller’s ownership after sustaining damage on a steep driveway.
The steel wheels wear polished hubcaps and are mounted with 7.00-18 Dunlop-Fort bias-ply tires. A matching spare wheel is mounted in the right fender. The Phantom III was equipped from the factory with coil spring-based independent front suspension, semi-elliptical leaf springs at the rear, and a one-shot chassis-lubrication system actuated by a lever in the cabin. Braking is provided by four-wheel servo-assisted mechanical drums.
The right-hand-drive front cabin features a bench seat trimmed in gray leather along with matching door panels and carpets. The three-spoke steering wheel fronts a burl wood dashboard housing a 110-mph speedometer, a clock, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, fuel level, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows under 15k miles, approximately 900 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The rear cabin is separated from the front of the cabin by a divider with a roll-down glass window. It features a bench seat trimmed in tan fabric, matching door panels, twin jump seats, a locking cabinet, burl wood trim, rear seat pull-out ashtrays, and a rear armrest housing a vanity mirror and storage compartments.
The aluminum-alloy 7,338cc V12 features overhead valves operated by a single camshaft, a single twin-choke Stromberg carburetor, and a twin ignition system incorporating two distributors and 24 spark plugs. The seller notes an issue with one of the distributors. A new battery was installed in 2022.
