Gray 16×7″ American Racing Torq Thrust II wheels are mounted with 215/65 front and 225/65 rear Kumho Solus TA31 tires. The mounting points for the front control arms have been lowered via the Shelby/Arning drop technique, and KYB shocks have been installed along with a 7/8″ front sway bar and 1″ lowering coil springs rated at 700 lb/in. Stiffer 1.5″ lowering leaf springs from Eaton have been installed out back. The seller also notes that the power-assisted brakes have been removed in favor of an unassisted front disc and rear drum brake system that utilizes four-piston Kelsey-Hayes front calipers. A Borgeson power-steering box has been added along with steering components from the redesigned 1965 model.
Replacement red upholstery is found on the seating surfaces along with a matching console, carpets, door panels and trim. Woodgrain trim accents the dashboard, which houses a retro-style stereo in the factory location. Kick-panel speakers have been added along with aftermarket speakers in the rear deck. A Mercury-branded air-conditioning unit is mounted under the dash. The seller notes that repairs have been made to the console, and a crack remains near where it mounts to the floor.
A wood-rim steering wheel sits ahead of a horizontal 120-mph speedometer above auxiliary gauges. A pod with aftermarket water temperature and oil pressure gauges has been added to the left of the steering column. The five-digit odometer shows 2k miles, approximately 300 of which have been added by the seller. True mileage is unknown, and repairs have been made to the dash trim.
The car received a K-code 289ci V8 from the factory, which is said to have been replaced with a 289ci V8 that received a Scat 331 stroker kit and was overbored .040″ inch to displace 333ci with a 10.0:1 compression ratio. Equipment includes aluminum cylinder heads, Comp Cams steel roller rockers, a camshaft that was ground by Cam Research, an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold, and a Dan DaVinci-modified Holley 650cfm four-barrel carburetor. The break-in oil was changed in early 2022.
Dynamometer paperwork from October 2021 indicates a peak output of approximately 406 horsepower and 409 lb-ft of torque at the crank.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a TCI Super StreetFighter C4 three-speed automatic transmission which was sourced under previous ownership. During current ownership the transmission was partially rebuilt and was fitted with a B&M 2,500-rpm stall converter. The solid 8″ rear axle is said to be a narrower unit sourced from a Maverick and has been fitted with a limited-slip differential and 3.55:1 gears. The driveshaft has been replaced along with the u-joints.
