Finished in silver from the factory, the exterior was repainted in 1974 following a Series I-style headlight conversion performed by the original selling dealership. The front and top of the car were repainted and lower sides were blended in. The trim was reportedly not removed during the process and the seller notes tape lines on some of the edges of the chrome trim and underneath the rear bumper. The driver-side rocker gasket was replaced during original ownership, and the trim, lenses, and Triplex window glass markings and windscreen stickers are shown up close in the gallery below.
The removable hardtop was acquired by the original owner in 1973 as shown in a receipt. It was painted to match the body according to the original receipts a January 2021 inspection performed by marque specialist shop Stew Jones Restoration. A hardtop stand is included in the sale and pictured in the gallery below. The black convertible top is a replacement item and shows a tear on the passenger-side corner. The removed soft top is included along with a black tonneau cover.
Chrome 15” wire wheels are secured with three-lobe knock-offs and are mounted with 205/70 Maxxis MA-1 whitewall tires. A spare wire wheel is located in the trunk and wears a Dunlop tire, and a sixth wire wheel also comes with the car. Work performed in 2020 included rebuilding the brake master cylinder and proportioning valve, as well as replacing the brake fluid reservoir sensor and flushing the system.
The cabin is upholstered in black and features matching-color carpets, door panels, and dashboard surfaces. The car was delivered new with air conditioning and an AM/FM radio, and an alarm system from Sears has been installed. A blank switch on the dash was also converted into an ignition kill.
Primary instrumentation is from Smiths and includes a 160-mph speedometer and 7k-rpm tachometer. Additional gauges are located in the center dash, and the five-digit odometer shows under 7,900 miles.
The 5.3-liter OHC V12 is equipped with four Zenith Stromberg carburetors and produced 272 horsepower from the factory. The engine was started in 2020 for the first time in three decades after the cylinders were soaked with Marvel Mystery Oil over a period of a few weeks. The spark plugs were also changed, the fuel tank was cleaned, and the electric fuel pump was replaced. Additional work included:
Engine block stamping 7S11486LA is pictured above and matches the engine number shown on the chassis plate and Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, both of which can be seen up close in the gallery.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual gearbox. Black Ziebart rustproofing was applied to the underside in 1973, as indicated by a receipt attached in the gallery below. Suspension work performed in 2020 included installing new lower ball joints and tie-rod ends as well as new boots for those components.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate outlines the factory specification in addition to build and delivery information. Original sales documents and owner’s manuals are also included in the sale and can be reviewed in the gallery along with a warranty booklet, wiring diagram, and a Series III repair manual.
A notarized letter from the original owner describes his 47 years with the car. Documentation from Stew Jones of Stew Jones Restorations, located in Winsted, Connecticut, is attached in the gallery and outlines the findings from a December 2020 inspection.
The removed Series III headlamps, buckets, and chrome trim pieces are also included in the sale along with a can of silver paint and other extra parts. Videos below include a walk around, vehicle history discussion, engine start, paint meter readings, and in-car driving.
