The car was refinished in Toga White as part of a one-year rotisserie refurbishment which included separating the body from the chassis and replacing the floor pans and front center chassis support as well as powder-coating the chassis. Additional work included replacing the black soft top, tail lights, and body seals, and installing stainless steel hardware. Equipment includes a fold-flat windshield, removable doors, chrome mirrors, and bumpers that are powder-coated black.
White 14″ steel wheels are fitted with 205/75 Hankook Kinergy ST tires, and a spare is mounted in the front trunk. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drum brakes that were overhauled with a replacement primary cylinder, wheel cylinders, lines, and pads, and refurbishing the drums. Additional work included installing KYB shocks, replacing the wheel bearings, tie rod ends, and steering dampener, as well as refurbishing the steering box, and powder-coating the suspension components.
The front bucket seats and rear bench have been reupholstered in blue vinyl, and duckboards cover black powder-coated floors. Additional work performed in the refurbishment included rebuilding the pedal cluster and steering column controls, and replacing the wiring harness. A black four-point roll bar is bolted to the floor and a gasoline-fired cabin heater is installed.
The four-spoke steering wheel frames a 100-mph VDO speedometer with an inset fuel-level gauge. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 99k miles, approximately 30 of which were added under current ownership.
The 1.6-liter flat-four features a single carburetor and was overhauled by Bug City of Berlin, Connecticut. Work included replacing the pistons and cylinders, bearings, oil pump, and valves, as well as powder-coating the engine tin, valve covers, and air filter canister, as well as replacing the alternator.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle, which was rebuilt during the refurbishment as well as replacing the flywheel and clutch assembly. The exhaust system is said to have been ceramic-coated and exits through cut-outs in the bumper.
