This example was finished from the factory in Alpine White (L90E) and fitted with a manually operated white soft top with a heated glass rear window. Additional exterior details include a Karmann body tag affixed to the right fender, running boards, rear fender stone guards, dual mirrors, and impact bumpers with rub strips. The windshield frame seal, inner and outer window scrapers, and side window top seals were replaced in August 2022. Corrosion is visible on the inside of the rear bumper.
Silver-finished 15″ Lemmerz wheels wear black VW center caps and are mounted with 165-series Michelin XZX tires. The car rides on a MacPherson strut front suspension and features rack-and-pinion steering and stopping power is provided by four-wheel drum brakes. The brake master cylinder, wheel cylinders, hoses, and lines were replaced in August 2022.
The cabin houses front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in Ermine vinyl, while woodgrain appliqué accents on the dashboard. Salt-and-pepper carpets line the footwells, and additional appointments include a 12-volt outlet, a lockable glove compartment, door map pockets, three-point front seat belts, rear lap belts, and a radio delete panel.
A four-spoke steering wheel features a Wolfsburg-branded horn button and frames an 85-mph speedometer with an inset fuel level gauge. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 1,200 miles, approximately 200 of which have been added under current ownership.
The front trunk is lined with black fiberboard and houses a replacement fuel tank, a brake fluid reservoir, and a windshield washer system that is pressurized by the spare tire.
The air-cooled 1.6L flat-four is equipped with Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection and was factory rated at 48 horsepower and 73 lb-ft of torque. The car passed a California emissions test in April 2023.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle.
