Introduced as a prototype in 1971, the Countach was designed by Bertone’s Marcello Gandini with angular wedge-shaped styling and scissor doors. The car features a tubular steel space frame under aluminum bodywork as well as NACA ducts aft of the doors and air intakes above the rear quarters. The 5000 QV model debuted in 1985 and utilized Kevlar front and rear deck lids.
This example is in Rosso Siviglia and features a European-market front bumper, Carello fog lights, Vitaloni side-view mirrors, a V-shaped rear wing, and a quad-exit exhaust. Replacement hood, door, and decklid struts were installed in November 2021. The pop-up headlights were fitted with LED bulbs along with replacement headlight motors in March 2022. The removed headlights are included in the sale. Areas of touch-up paint are noted by the seller.
The 15″ Ruote OZ wheels feature Lamborghini center caps and are mounted with 225/50 front and 345/35 rear Pirelli P Zero Asimmetrico tires that were installed in November 2021. A black OZ Racing wheel with a Michelin tire is mounted in the front trunk. The Countach features a fully independent suspension with quad rear coilovers and rack-and-pinion steering. Stopping power is provided by servo-assisted ventilated disc brakes at all four corners. Service performed in November 2021 included the installation of new rear suspension arms and stainless steel brake lines as well as a rebuild of the brake calipers.
The cockpit features fixed-back seats trimmed in tan leather along with a matching lower dash, center console, door panels, and sills. Brown carpets line the floors, and additional equipment includes a gated shifter, a Jaeger LCD clock, and an Alpine CD player. The air conditioning does not blow cold according to the seller.
The leather-wrapped Raid steering wheel frames a 320-km/h speedometer, a tachometer with a 7,500-rpm redline, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 19k kilometers (~12k miles).
The Giotto Bizzarrini-designed 5.2-liter V12 features a 60° cylinder bank angle, four valves per cylinder, and Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection. It was factory rated at 414 horsepower. A new battery and spark plugs were installed in November 2021, at which time the right radiator and water pump were rebuilt and the oil was changed.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission mounted in the middle of the car, ahead of the engine. A new clutch slave cylinder and hose were installed in November 2021 along with replacement CV boots. Fresh transaxle oil was also added at that time.
