The 1998 model year was the final Diablo to feature pop-up headlights, and the Monterey Edition was offered exclusively to US-based customers. This example was repainted in factory Ocean Blue (L3) with silver SV graphics by Xclusv Autosports of Staten Island, New York, in April 2015, at which time the windshield, rear quarter glass, tail lights, and window and body seals were replaced. The SV Monterey Edition features an adjustable rear wing, black taillight and rear grille bezels, quad exhaust pipes, and SE30-style triple air intakes ahead of the rear wheels. The pop-up headlights can be seen raised in the gallery along with factory glass etchings.
Three-piece 18″ polished wheels were refinished and mounted with 235/40 front and 335/30 rear Pirelli P Zero Rosso tires in 2015. The suspension features a hydraulic front lifting system as well as double coilovers at the rear, and braking is handled by black calipers with Lamborghini scripts over drilled rotors.
The single-piece seats are trimmed in tan leather with blue piping and Monterey Edition headrest embroidery. The matching door panels, lower dash trim, and center console are contrasted by blue carpets. Carbon fiber trim accents the center console, and amenities include air conditioning, power locks, a gated shifter, and an Alpine stereo.
A numbered dash plaque denotes this car as the 15th of 20 Monterey Editions, and a Monterey Edition shift knob is also fitted.
White VDO instrumentation includes a 220-mph speedometer, a 9k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for oil temperature and pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 20k kilometers (~12k miles), 4k of which were added during current ownership. The airbag light is illuminated.
The 5.7-liter V12 received valve timing management for the 1998 model year and produced 530 horsepower and 428 lb-ft of torque in Monterey Edition specification, a 20 horsepower increase over the standard SV. The engine was rebuilt by Corsa Motors of Englewood, New Jersey, at 18k kilometers in January 2016, and new coil packs were installed by Keane’s Autoworks of Bedford Hills, New York, in July 2020.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission and a ZF limited-slip differential. The transmission was rebuilt at the time of the engine rebuild, and a replacement clutch was also installed. A Tubi exhaust was fitted by Eurotech Motorsports of Mahwah, New Jersey, in March 2015.
