The first-generation GT was designed by Camilo Pardo as an homage to the Le Mans-winning GT40 race cars of the 1960s. It features aluminum body panels over an extruded aluminum space frame and roll-bonded floors.
This example is one of 766 finished in Mark IV Red for the 2005 model year and is optioned with white, over-the-top stripes as well as Ford GT-branded side graphics. Aerodynamic details include a functional front splitter and rear diffuser in addition to a lip spoiler.
Forged aluminum BBS wheels measure 18” in diameter up front and 19” out back and are mounted with 235/45 and 315/40 Goodyear Eagle F1 tires, respectively. Optional red-finished Brembo brake calipers are paired with cross-drilled and ventilated rotors that measure 14” front and 13.2” rear.
Manually adjustable seats were designed by Sparco and feature carbon-fiber shells, Ebony leather upholstery, GT40-style ventilation grommets, and harness passthroughs. Plastic covers were removed from the seats for photos, and factory warning tags have been retained. The center console houses climate controls, a brushed-aluminum emergency brake lever, and a shifter with an aluminum knob. Amenities include air conditioning and an optional McIntosh CD stereo.
The steering wheel is mounted to a telescoping and tilting column and frames a central tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. Additional instrumentation includes an offset 220-mph speedometer as well as gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, voltage, supercharger boost, and fuel level. The digital odometer shows just 27 miles, and driver and passenger airbags recalls were performed in 2018.
The 5.4-liter V8 is mounted amidships and features aluminum construction, a Lysholm screw-type supercharger, a water-to-air intercooler, and a dry-sump lubrication system. Output was rated by the factory at 550 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transaxle with a helical limited-slip differential.
The early-production GT featured upper and lower control arms machined from billet aluminum, as seen above. Additional underside photos are provided in the gallery below.
Saleen Special Vehicles “build books” were typically retained by Ford Motor Company, though the book for chassis 5Y400341 is included in this sale and documents assembly steps and inspections throughout the build process. A window sticker is also included in the sale and outlines the factory colors and optional equipment as well as a total MSRP of $156,595.
